Branch Manager - Geneseo

Job Summary

The Branch Manager position is responsible for the administration and efficient daily operations of a full service branch office. This includes operations, lending, product sales, member service and security and safety in accordance with the Credit Union’s objectives. The Branch Manager is to develop new deposit and loan business, provide a superior level of member relations and promote the sales and service culture through coaching, guidance and staff motivation. The Branch Manager is responsible for achieving individual and branch sales goals through new business, referrals and retention of membership.

Responsibilities and Duties

Staff Coaching and Development

  • Develop frontline staff through formal evaluation process as well as through one on one coaching and mentoring
  • Lead by example by emphasizing integrity and Credit Union values
  • Provide training relevant to policy and procedure, Credit Union products, and sales skills as well as maintain knowledge levels on both technical areas and sales skills
  • Create and approve incentives for employees for recognition.
  • Motivate staff to promote and maximize sales as well as highest possible level of member service to ensure member satisfaction and retention
  • Perform Corrective Action procedures as necessary
  • Exercise authority in matters regarding hiring, staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations

Frontline Duties & Office Management

  • Oversee all aspects of frontline staff and directly supervise in accordance with Credit Union policy and all relevant laws
  • Follow and maintain established Credit Union policies and procedures for the entire branch, exercising proper discretion when exceptions are necessary.
  • Managing staff’s compliance with policy/procedure and ensure loss prevention based on check holds and other mechanisms.
  • Manage frontline operations and expenses.
  • Delegate day to day operations to appropriate frontline personnel.
  • When necessary, maintain cash inventory and order shipments
  • When necessary, receive and process financial transactions for membership including: deposits, withdrawals, loan requests, and loan payments, selling of money orders and all other negotiable instruments.
  • Ensure all branch staff understands loan products relevant to their position.
  • Ensure the proper handling of loan information requests, applications and processing to loan department standards
  • Ensure that submission to loan department for underwriting and disbursement/ notification of adverse action as required in the appropriate manner and time frames.
  • Responsible for all credit union assets and supplies including coordinating supply orders and ordering directly while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Ensure a clean and organized environment in which staff can effectively work.
  • Ensure inside and outside appearance of branch is kept to expected levels of cleanliness, lack of clutter and general appeal.
  • Process member requests for exceptions including, but not limited, to check holds and fee waivers.
  • Process new and existing member account openings.
  • Promote safe deposit box sales and train staff on sale process.
  • Maintaining Credit Union policy and procedures regarding all operations.
  • Supervise staff’s cross-selling performance.
  • Schedule staff to meet member and branch needs while maintaining efficiency.
  • Verify and approve timesheets of employees as well as facilitating any other staff issues.

Sales and Business Development

  • Participate in community affairs to increase the Credit Union’s visibility and to enhance new and existing business opportunities.
  • Schedule sales/training meetings as well as one on one coaching with staff as needed.
  • Visit local business, organizations and groups in person. Schedule staff to do follow up visits as well.
  • Plan localized marketing events in association with the Public Relations Manager.
  • Actively participate in at least one community-based organization.
  • Retain, build, and grow relationships with members and future members.


  • Monitor suspicious or high risk activity and report to appropriate regulatory body as needed.
  • Provide a proactive environment in branch which reduces risk.
  • Completes and adjusts Monthly Branch Checklist.
  • Helps in the coordination and support of compliance audits and examinations. 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years relevant experience or Associates degree and 5-7 years relevant experience.
  • Mathematical and statistical aptitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Extensive overall banking knowledge.
  • Knowledge of federal and state banking regulations.
  • Loan and deposit documentation knowledge.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Extremely comfortable working with computers using word processing, spreadsheet software and a variety of applications in a windows environment.
  • Active listening skills required.
  • Ability to grasp complex situations; adapt and learn quickly.
  • Passion for deadline-driven, high volume environments.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as integral team member.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and balancing practices.
  • Ability to function and make appropriate decisions in “pressure” situations.
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to locate necessary information using all available sources of information.
  • Ability to deal effectively with grievances including situations with several concrete variables.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the personnel of other Credit Union departments.
  • Problem solving skills and member service skills required.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
